Okunoin 奥の院
Okunoin cemetery is regarded as the most sacred site in whole Japan. Located in Koyasan in Wakayama Prefecture south of Osaka. One of the most mystical places I’ve ever visited. Koyasan is home for Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism and it is said that Kōbō-Daishi (Founder of Shingon Buddhism) has entered into an eternal samadhi and is still alive on the graveyard, awaiting the appearance of the next Buddha Maitreya. Once new Buddha will arrive only Kōbō-Daishi will be able to understand and interpret his teachings. On one of the monuments there is a stone to which you can place your ear and you will be able to hear the cries in hell.
